Calling good causes: I might have £5k for you!
ARE you a charity, community group or a good cause? Then, have I got news for you!
Every November I hold a big bonfire party for all my friends and associates and in return for a free food, drink and an amazing firework show, I ask for a charity donation.
Last year 600 people came and we raised £5,000 which was split between Cancer Research UK and Moroccan orphans. Now I'm about to choose who'll receive the cash this time - and I'm looking for inspiration.
It would be great to give money to a local good cause and if you think you have a home for a windfall, just let me know! You might be a school, a community centre, a charity that helps people or animals, I'm open-minded.
I'm not the National Lottery, I'm not asking you to fill in forms or meet criteria. I just need to know you're a properly-registered non-profit-making organisation and you have an interesting project that would benefit from some cash.
Just send me an email - my address is terry@terrygeorge.co.uk - of no more than 300 words with details of who you are and what you do, by two weeks today, Monday September 4.
The chances are we'll raise another £5,000, hopefully more than that. We might spit the money between two or more charities, or we might give the lot to one particular good cause.
My staff and I will look through your requests and we'll keep you posted on progress in this column.
The other thing I want to tell you about this week is that I met Gaby Logan - the daughter of Huddersfield Town coach Terry Yorath - for the second time.
She'd left her twins at home but motherhood doesn't seem to be doing her any harm at all, she looked amazing.
The TV star was at Share Jewellers, in Street Lane, Leeds, designing her own exclusive piece of jewellery, using state-of-the-art technology. The piece will be auctioned on behalf of the Daniel Yorath Appeal at a later date.
Daniel, of course, was Gaby's brother who died tragically in 1992. Money raised goes to the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association.
I had a chat with her and she's so nice - talented in so many ways. And the silver jewellery she designed was great, is there no end to her talents?
