Terry’s at home to make an impression
The home of Examiner columnist Terry George is to feature on tv screens tomorrow.
His home Carr Hall Castle, at Stainland, is one of three properties being featured on Channel Five’s I won Britain’s Best Home series on Thursday at 8pm.
Multi-millionaire Terry, 43, and his civil partner Michael Rothwell have transformed the ornamental 19th century building into a luxurious yet practical home.
The series has nine episodes and is presented by property consultant Melissa Porter, architectural designer Charlie Luxton and developer Russell Harris.
Each week, the three presenters each spend 24 hours at the property they feel has the potential to be Britain’s best home.
They look at everything about the property, from it’s architecture, size and design to how it works as a home.
It was Melissa who was chosen to stay with Terry and Michael for 24 hours in February " and as a special treat they let her have a swim in the castle’s indoor pool with several hunky male models!
Terry said: “I’m glad we had Melissa to stay at ours as she was so much fun. The other presenters seem knowledgeable in their field but I don’t think they would have been as impressed with the six male models we hired to film the swimming pool scene!
“She mentioned that our house was one of her favourites. Let’s hope all the viewers think the same and we make it through to the final.”
In Thursday’s episode, Terry’s home will be up against a new-build house in Fife and a Victorian renovation project in Surrey.
The presenters have already visited stylish properties including an art-deco 1950’s home in Middlesex, a plush property on Millionaire’s Row in Leeds, a 1930’s pad and an ultra-modern London flat.
Each week, a winner is chosen from the three homes and goes forward to a final. The overall winner will receive £25,000 " but more importantly the accolade of living in Britain’s best home.
Terry said: “I’m really excited. Having watched the first three programmes in the series so far I think we have some very stiff competition, but whether we win or not we are flattered that we have been chosen to enter.”
